The Tiger year has gotten off to a rough start for Taiwanese singer Jay Chou.
The award-winning R&B singer recently exchanged verbal insults with Taiwanese rapper, Dog G, and got burnt by allegations from ex-label-mate, Devin Wu, who claimed that she lost her virginity to him when she was just 16.
At the Sprite Original Music Awards in Shenzhou, China, a few nights ago, the 31-year-ols sported a beard on his face. The new, masculine appearance, he explained, is because he has been “quite unlucky lately. I have to change my image to change my luck” by having an image makeover.
Luck or not, the singer maintained his streak of multiple wins at ceremonies. He was the biggest winner that night with six awards under his belt. He also won the Best Duet award with his junior, Cindy Yen.
He remained good-natured and optimistic despite the bad press. “There is a lot of strange news going on lately. It’s unlucky but the worst will come to pass because it is good news to have news. I told myself that gossip is also a good thing because it means that I am famous. However, there are some issues that need to be clarified to prevent misunderstandings.”
Since taking on more film roles with The Treasure Hunter, True Legend and his upcoming Hollywood debut as Kato in The Green Hornet, as well as producing his own superhero TV series Pandamen, the multi-hyphenate intends to return to the music industry.
“This year I plan to focus on music and concerts. I won’t be toying with movies and I do not wish to forsake my music fans again.”
